Tasting Notes

"2024 Ducks Unlimited Red Blend is simply fantastic...The aromatics just soar out of the glass with blackberry and boysenberry fruit framed by elegant cedarwood spice, lifted by violets and a bright pop of blue fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it shows a framework of fine-grained, firm tannins with a long finish marked by wet slate and crushed rock minerality, underscored by crisp, focused acidity... You'd be crazy not to pair it with brisket or seared duck breast over a balsamic reduction." (Review by Jonathan Cristaldi; rated 97 points by Cristaldi & Co., September 2025.)

Winemaking

Fermented in separate lots in oak barrels. Aged in 25% new French oak barrels and 75% neutral oak barrels for 15 months.

Food Pairing

Pair with brisket or seared duck breast over a balsamic reduction.

The Vineyard

Vintage Press Vineyard (Gillespie County), Dell Valley Vineyard (Hudspeth County), and Hye Estate Vineyard (Blanco County). Across the state of Texas are the old sedimentary soils that grapevines are rooted into, feeding on mineral-rich bedrock under shallow, alluvial top soils. Ancient rivers and crumbling limestone have left stones dispersed amongst the sand and clay loams, providing ideal drainage which, coupled with a range of elevations, make for ideal fine grape growing conditions.

Vintage Press Vineyard (Gillespie County), Dell Valley Vineyard (Hudspeth County), Hye Estate Vineyard (Blanco County). Age of Vines: 12-14 years. Elevation: 1,450-3,750 ft. Soil Type: Clay loam over limestone; riverbed; sandy loam over caliche with river rock.
