Tasting Notes

The floral side of this grape variety - roses and violet mixes with raspberry and zesty citrus-pepper aromas. The combination is polished and elegant, yet the palate holds the weight expected of the Texas High Plains growing region. Dry, medium-bodied, and cellar-worthy.

Winemaking

Aged for 6 months in 50% new French oak barrels and 50% neutral barrels, racked, and then aged for another 12 months in 100% neutral barrels.

Food Pairing

Pair with game bird, hearty grain salads, especially with tomato, and mild white cheddar cheeses.

The Vineyard

AVA: Texas High Plains

In 2014 John Friesen had already found his true calling in the Texas High Plains. That year he diversified his family’s cotton and peanut farm by planting grapevines. Today, he has 33 acres with 9 varieties from Cabernet Sauvignon to Petit Manseng. John believes in hands-on farming, biodiversity, and sustainability. He calls their vineyard dog, Harley, the “heart of Friesen.”
