Tasting Notes
This Tannat is ripe and fragrant, with a beautiful mix of red and purple florals, sweet spices, and extremely polished, firm, fine-grained tannins. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, it showcases brown spices and elegant cedarwood throughout, all while maintaining incredible freshness. - Review by Jonathan Cristaldi
Winemaking
Fermented in large oak fermenter for 12 days. Extended skin maceration for 24 days. Aged in 5% new French oak barrels and 95% neutral barrels for 24 months.
Food Pairing
Pair with braised meats, grain or mushroom based dishes with butter, and funky washed rind cheeses.
The Vineyard
Hye Estate is home to about 6.5 total acres of grapevines. Planted originally in 2012, the Tannat vines are rooted in nitrogen-rich soil previously at the bottom of a riverbed. That, combined with a limestone base, has made for powerful grapes with incredible aromatics. Because of its success at this site, the full 6.5+ acres of vine area are now dedicated to this single variety.
Hye Estate Vineyard, Blanco County, Texas Hill Country AVA. Age of Vines: 11 years. Soil Type: Riverbed, limestone, rich in nitrogen. Elevation: 1,450 ft.
