Tasting Notes
Stewed red plums, earth, ripe blackberries, mulberry bush, and granite deepen the nose of this wine whilst tart cranberry peaks through. Sure enough, on the palate the fruit suddenly seems just-ripe and crisp, with gripping tannins, a medium body, and a dry, wild raspberry finish.
Winemaking
Fermented in stainless steel tanks for 8 days at 86°F to promote extraction of color and tannin, while preserving the fruit characters. Aged in neutral oak for 16 months.
Food Pairing
A fruity, complex wine like this shines next to a simpler dish - a fine cheddar cheese or a Filet Mignon.
The Vineyard
AVA: Texas Hill Country
Of the six blocks that make up Hye Estate Vineyard, Annie's Block was one of the two blocks originally planted to Mourvèdre. Hye Estate was planted in 2012 on seven of the 26 acres of William Chris Vineyards in the city of Hye. The land is a uniquely nitrogen-rich, clay dried river basin over limestone bedrock.
Elevation: 1,450 ft. Soil: Riverbed, limestone, nitrogen rich. Age of vines: 12 years.
