Tasting Notes
Lightly tinted in the glass with youthful aromas of red berries and flowers, and of sweet-tarts. There are pastry notes suggestive of wild berry pop-tarts - the homemade kind! Juicy on the nose and palate, with a medium body and a tart kiss. Chill slightly for this wine to "pop."
Winemaking
Fermented in stainless steel tank for 12 days. Aged in 90% neutral French oak barrels and 10% concrete for 10 months.
Food Pairing
Balsamic glazed chicken, barbecue with a tangy sauce and spicy pickled vegetable slaw.
The Vineyard
AVA: Texas High Plains
The Texas High Plains is the second largest designated grape-growing region in Texas, spanning 8 million acres, yet it is responsible for the majority of the wine grapes grown in the state. A rare set of growing conditions make this area unique. On a vast flat plain, the vineyards reach elevations of 3,000 to 4,000 feet, resulting in very balanced wines.
La Pradera and Lost Draw Vineyards, Texas High Plains AVA. Age of Vines: 11-16 years. Soil Type: Fine sandy loam over some limestone and caliche. Elevation: 3,300-3,600 ft.
