Tasting Notes

Puréed plum, cranberry, and blue raspberry, with violets, cigar, and a hint of molasses. The dry, yet fruity taste is of sweetarts, red plums and chalky, melt away tannins. Medium bodied.

Winemaking

All stainless fermentation. Pressed off of skins early, after 6 days, to cut down on tannin extraction and retain freshness for a bright, fruity red wine style. Aged in 10% new French oak barrels and 90% neutral French oak barrels for 20 months.

Food Pairing

The bright fruitiness of this wine is perfect to cut through fatty meats or to tame spice or bitter foods.

The Vineyard

Moonlight Vineyard, Texas High Plains AVA. Moonlight Vineyard is less than 10 acres of grapes established in Brownfield by George and Peggy Seely (2014). Miss Peggy worked with Andy Timmons (a well established grower in the Texas High Plains) for years before getting the wild hair to plant their own couple of red and white varieties. The crop has been unexpectedly incredible since year one and is one of the few vineyards in Texas recognized as sustainable by the BioTech Research Institute.

Elevation: 3,200 ft. Soil: Amarillo fine sandy loam over limestone. Vines planted in 2014.
