AVA: Texas High Plains
Bill Blackmon recalls his childhood playing with family friends in West Texas. In fact, he considered Eunice and Jacque Hunter as part of the family. Eunice was a lifelong friend of Bill and Carol's mother, Mary Ruth. Eunice had admired Mary Ruth's vineyard for some time, so much so that one day in 1986, she called Mary Ruth and told her she wanted Bill to plant her a vineyard like Mary Ruth had. Bill obliged and soon planted a vineyard on Eunice's land near Brownfield, which became Hunter Vineyard. In 1996, the same year he moved to the Hill Country, he added Merlot vines to the original Cabernet Sauvignon, and it's this Merlot that is always featured in the Hunter blend.
