Tasting Notes
A rich garnet tint delivers aromas of baked plum, black cherry and pomegranate, lifted at the palate's edges by lighter floral notes. Lush, and nearly opulent with ripeness, its texture is expressive with moderately high tannins exhibiting flavors of roasted coffee and chocolate melting into a mocha-like finish.
Winemaking
Aged up to 30 months, mostly in neutral French oak. Bottled February 2015, released March 2015.
The Vineyard
Kiepersol Vineyards (Tyler), Twin Lakes Vineyards (Waelder), Alamosa Vineyards and Comanche Creek Vineyards (Bend), Madola Vineyard (Driftwood), La Pradera Vineyard (Brownfield)
In 2009, when we were remodeling the old farmhouse, which is now our Hye Society Lounge, we found a skeleton key hanging on a nail. This key opened every door in the house. When making this new wine, Josh and Chris were challenged by this blend in the winery, but the addition of Ruby Cabernet opened the wine up beautifully. Bill thought to name the wine "Skeleton Key."
