Tasting Notes

A bold and dry first expression of William Chris Dell Valley Malbec, with powerful aromatics, already in full force. Strong tannin structure makes this an ideal wine to decant or enjoy with food. The aromas are pleasantly polished, despite the evident smoked chocolate notes.

Winemaking

Fermented in large oak fermenter. Aged for 18 months in 15% new French oak barrels and 85% neutral barrels.

Food Pairing

Pair with rich and rustic high-protein dishes: Pot roast, homemade stew, or anything off the grill.

The Vineyard

Originally established in 1987, the vines at Dell Valley are thick and deeply rooted in the sloped sandy, caliche type soils of West Texas. Sitting outside of any currently designated American Viticultural Area, or AVA, this vineyard is mightily tended by Phillipe, whose experience with growing grapevines began at an early age on the French island of Corsica.

Dell Valley Vineyard, Hudspeth County. Age of Vines: 37 years. Soil Type: Sandy loam over caliche with river rock. Elevation: 3,750 ft.
