The Vineyard
Sutton County
After Cam and Erika Campbell gave up the newspaper business, they turned to grape growing to fill their time. Not many vineyards dot Sutton County, but the Campbells discovered that the cool nights, lack of rainfall, hot daytime temperatures, and the unique soil composition create the perfect balance of acid and tannins in the fruit grown here. Chris heard the Campbells unexpectedly had some extra grapes for sale back in 2012, and, having positive childhood memories of the area, he went to check them out. The fruit came from a special block in the vineyard known as Bill’s Block, named after Bill Epps, a father figure to Cam who taught him ranching and to love the rugged land. Chris identified with the Campbell’s story and loved their fruit and so brought the first of many harvests from this special block back to William Chris.
