2021 Sangiovese – Newsom Vineyard

Crisp red fruits, just-past-ripe strawberry, violets and roses, cream and cotton blossom, and pink peppercorn notes on the nose. These lead into cherry bubblegum with woodsy notes on the palate - rustic yet opulently fruity. Dry, with nice acidity and a medium body.

No cold soak. Fermented in large oak fermenter for 7 days. Aged on lees for 19 months. Aged for 19 months in 10% new French oak barrels and 90% neutral French oak barrels. 

ABV: 13.1% | pH: 3.94 | TA: 6.38 g/L | RS: 0.82 g/L 

Serve at 59°F | Decant

AVA: Texas High Plains

Established in Yoakum County by the Newsom family, they now have about 150 acres of quality fruit growing in flat, semi-arid conditions. Neal Newsom grew up in Yoakum and came from a long line of cotton farmers. Cotton is a thirsty crop, requiring more water than Texas often gives, so he looked toward alternative crops and settled on growing high-quality grapes from their dry, shallow, poor soils, which cause the grapes to struggle.
